The River Road to Myanmar

The River Road to Myanmar

New Date!

Dear friends,

Please note that the Kaladan Exp. has a new date 21 Oct. – 5 Nov. 2012, due to the late Monsoon.

The Expedition will start in Mizoram, Tuipui, India, where we will water the boats to navigate upstream for as much as possible. We will have to navigate some heavy white water in this wild but untouched region. From there we will follow the international Border India / Myanmar an then enter again in to India for a couple of days.

Entering Myanmar the river will get smoother and we will travel through a corner of this world where hardly anybody has been. We will visit Mrauk U on the Laymyo River. It was the capital of Mrauk U Kingdom the most important and powerful Rakhine kingdom, from 1430 to 1785. In Sittwe we will reach our destination, the Golf of Bengal, where we will return the water collected at the source into the Indian Ocean.

Here the Expedition is not finished since we have to bring back the Boats to India. We will travel again North for 2-3 days to finish our Expedition on the Indian/Myanmar border.

Logistic and permissions is a big challenge. Armin Schoch a S/E Asian travel expert is working on the Myanmar side, where Apal and Zorba are in contact with the Indian officials.

We humans are explorers by nature. The quest for discovery, both old and new, is part of what separates us from rest of the animal kingdom. If you feel like joining this very special Expedition, please contact us.

With best regards
Apal and Andy
