October 22th, Monday
We woke up at 05.30 with the sun up on the horizon and the town below us covered in thick morning mist. As all of India is on the same time zone, people in the Northeast are used to see the sun rise before 05.00 a.m. while it usually sets already at 05.00 p.m. We will have to adjust our rhythm to getting up very early in the morning to make the most out of daylight.

Breakfast and packing our bags behind us, we took a short taxi ride to the market to buy some more provisions for the expedition and were confronted with a completely different town from the day before. All the shops were open, traffic was clogging up fast and school children in their neat uniforms were on their way to school everywhere. The contrast between Aizawl on Sunday (the day before) and on this working Monday could not have been greater. Then we moved on to the Aizawl Press Club where we were expected for a press conference at noon.

Before a crowd of some 20 journalists we explained the objectives of and the motivation for the Kaladan / Kolodyne Expedition and thanked the Chief Minister… The Department of Tourism as well as the Department of Sports for their active support and sponsorship of the expedition. Then, it was back to the tourist lodge to fetch our bags and off we were to Lunglei, Mizoram´s second biggest city, a 6-hour journey over 146kms of endless curves through the mountains, arriving at the Zotlang Tourist Lodge at 09.00 p.m.
