Brahmaputra

Brahmaputra, October 20th

Calm Before the Storm

Our drive carried on along the Chusum River, a tributary of Yarlung. A little later we went over the snow bound Budrang La, a 4910 meter high pass.

After spending a short time under the flatter of prayer flag that adorned the top of every pass in Tibet, we carried on the steep descend towards the Gyatsa area. Here we also went pass the new township that is coming up at Woka, where the work for the dam and hydro electric projection Yarlung is going on.

The holy lake Lhamo Lhatso is about 60 km from here. This oracle lake at an altitude of 4900 meters is a lake of great significant for Tibetans. Dali lamas have been regularly coming to see the images of future in the holy waters of Lhamo Lhatso. It is also believed that the whereabouts of the next incarnation of Dali Lama are also reviled in its waters and the image directs the search for the young his Holiness. We camped by the river, a little ahead of Gyatsa at place where we could easily prepare our boats for the onward journey.
