Yesterday as we reached Nino Patang, Andy along with Jed and Leowent to Nino Gauge area to see if it was doable and returned with the opinon that it was not safe for the boats and the crew, withpresent conditions of wild rapids. Sowe packed up the boats and drove on. Enroute we all stopped by the Gauge andlooked at the churning waters below. This section is prehapsed agreat playground for the expert Kayurere. But withour 15 feet inflated boats, mounted wqith 40hp enginesit was certainlyhot waters.
Westopped for lunch at a smalltown called Quxu. The little high street had many Tibetn womenselling their wares of beads strings, which the local people buy as sintriuments of preyers and tourist pick them as souviouner.
As we carried on, the river spread out on a vast area and became very shallow, so we carried on through a goldencorridor of Populars dressed in their autum colors. We wentpast the Lhasa airport and later got a glimpse of Samye Monostery across the river.This holyplace is a 3-4 day walk from the Gonden Moneserty, which we had earlier visited from Lhasa.
We stopped at the Tsetang town for night. Tsetang is a big townand growingwith a huge shopping district and hotels. It also had a whle street lined with massage facilites forthetried travelers. Everybodyenjoyed the hotshower and the comforts of the hotel after days of camping outin open bythe river side.
