Driving in a Strange Land

Drive from Beryang to Saga was largely through the open arid landscape of Tibetan plateau. Saw lot of wildlife enroute. It was like driving through a national park thriving with a variety of life in the wild. There were large herds of Kyang Tibetan wild Ass, groups of Yellow antelopes and occasional fox and the most rare site of very large herd of Cheeru – the endangered Tibetan antelope. We were also lucky to see a few pairs of Black necked cranes.

The road construction at many places at the road did slow down our progress but at the same time provided opportunities to saviour the beautiful landscape. For a large part we were driving along Yarlung – the river that will be our companion for coming weeks.

Reached Saga by 5.30 and Andy and Jed briefed the crew about the life on the river, safety and procedure etc. Tomorrow we ready our boats and prepare for our onward journey on the river.
