Brahmaputra

Brahmaputra, November 7th

Friendship Knows No Size

Today was like a holiday for all of us. After a comfortable night at the camp, we left early in the morning by jeeps for our elephant Safari into the Kaziranga National Park. Everybody was excited as most of the crew members had neither sat on a elephant before nor had seen a Rhino in the wild.

The short ride in the central range of the Park was fairly rewarding as we spotted a number of Rhinos, swamp deer, and wild elephants. Then there were also a number of birds which we were able to photograph. After the exciting trip on elephant backs and a hearty Indian breakfast of puri bhaji, we returned to the National Park, this time in two jeeps. We again saw a lot of water birds, mostly resident because migratory ones have just started arriving and so far we could see that only a few bar-headed geese have made it to these wintering grounds.

Post lunch was a session of complete relaxation and most of us crashed out in comfortable corners like under the shade of a tree, in camp lounge or respective beds. Evening was usual, editing pictures looking at emails, uploading images and charging phones/camera batteries.

Tomorrow we will be back on the river and push further on.
